SEND Teaching Assistant (SEMH)
Location: Colchester, CO4
Contract Type: Term-time only
Start Date: September 2026
About the School:
We are a working with a specialist provision in CO4 supporting up to 80 students aged 10–16 with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan, and many have experienced barriers to learning in mainstream settings.

You will play a vital role in helping students engage with learning, develop socially and emotionally, and achieve their individual targets.
Working closely with teachers and other professionals, you will:
• Provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs, both in and out of the classroom
• Help manage challenging behaviours using positive and consistent strategies
• Support the delivery of engaging and accessible learning activities
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence and independence
• Contribute to the implementation of EHCP targets and personalised learning plans

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly SEMH
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships
• Patience, resilience, and a calm approach in challenging situations
