Job Title: Teaching Assistant – ASD, One-to-One Support (Challenging Behaviour)

Location: Bolton, Greater Manchester

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant team in Bolton, Greater Manchester. The successful candidate will provide one-to-one support to a student with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASD) and challenging behaviours. As a one-to-one teaching assistant, you will play a pivotal role in facilitating the student's educational and social development, as well as managing any behavioural challenges in a supportive and understanding manner.

Responsibilities:

- Work closely with the classroom teacher to understand the educational needs and learning goals of the student with ASD and challenging behaviour.
- Provide consistent and tailored one-to-one support to the student, both academically and emotionally, to help them engage with the curriculum and achieve their full potential.
- Develop and implement effective behaviour management strategies that align with school policies and promote a positive and safe learning environment.
- Use a variety of techniques to maintain the student's focus and interest during lessons, including adapting teaching methods to suit their individual learning style.
- Participate in the development and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavioural support plans in collaboration with teachers, parents, and other relevant professionals.
- Encourage the student's social integration and participation in school activities, while being mindful of their individual needs and sensitivities.
- Maintain detailed records of the student's progress, behaviour, and any incidents, communicating regularly with the teacher and parents.
- Attend and contribute to meetings and training sessions as required to further personal development and share best practices with the educational team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, including supporting the wider needs of the school when the student does not require one-to-one assistance.

Requirements:

- A minimum of an NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification.
- Experience with ASD and managing challenging behaviour is essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with students, especially those with special educational needs.
- Good understanding of the national curriculum and inclusion practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with staff, parents, and other professionals.
- The ability to work independently and make informed decisions regarding the welfare of the student.
- A patient, calm, and resilient demeanor, with a passion for making a difference in children's lives.
- A current DBS check or willingness to undergo one.
