Start Date: Immediate or October 2026
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term | Term Time Only
Hours: Monday to Friday | 8:30am – 4:30pm

Teaching Assistant – SEND College

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Autism and additional learning needs?

A specialist SEND college in Newton-le-Willows is looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support students aged 16–25 as they develop the skills and confidence needed for adulthood.

The college provides a practical and vocational approach to learning, with students working towards greater independence, employability, communication and life skills.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with Autism (ASC) and additional needs
• Support students across classroom, vocational and practical activities
• Encourage communication, confidence, independence and social development
• Support students with life skills, employability and enterprise activities
• Help students work towards individual EHCP targets and learning goals
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
• Support students in community-based activities and work-related learning
• Adapt activities and support to meet individual needs
• Work closely with tutors, therapists and other specialist staff

The curriculum is highly practical and can include student-led café activities, horticulture, outdoor projects, community engagement and employability programmes.

• Experienced in supporting young people with Autism, SEND or additional needs — desirable but not essential
• Caring, patient and empathetic
• Confident providing 1:1 and small-group support
• Interested in practical, vocational and life-skills education
• Reliable, adaptable and calm
• Strong communicators who work well as part of a team
• Committed to supporting young people towards greater independence

Experience from schools, colleges, care, support work, youth work or similar settings would be welcomed.
