We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Shaftesbury for a caring, enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who can help children make the most of every school day.
This is an opportunity to become part of a supportive school environment where children are encouraged to discover their strengths, develop confidence and take pride in their achievements. The school places real importance on creating a sense of belonging, making sure pupils feel safe, valued and motivated to learn.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside the class teacher to make learning accessible, engaging and enjoyable for pupils with a range of abilities and needs.
Your day could involve:
• Providing one-to-one and small-group support with classroom activities and learning tasks.
• Helping children develop confidence, independence and positive relationships.
• Adapting your approach to suit different learning styles and individual needs.
• Supporting pupils who may need additional help with communication, emotional regulation or social interaction.
• Encouraging participation, curiosity and positive behaviour throughout the school day.
• Helping create a calm, encouraging classroom where every child has the opportunity to succeed.
You will play an important part in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, celebrating their progress and recognising the small steps that make a big difference.
What We’re Looking For
We would love to hear from someone who is:
• Patient, approachable and naturally encouraging.
• Confident building positive relationships with children.
• Flexible and able to respond calmly when situations change.
• A good communicator who enjoys working as part of a team.
• Passionate about helping children feel included and reach their potential.
Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant is beneficial, particularly within a primary or SEND setting. However, we are also keen to hear from applicants with relevant personal experience, including supporting children with additional needs within their own family or wider circle.
A formal school-based background is not essential. Your attitude, reliability and willingness to learn are just as important.
