Axcis Education is working in partnership with a specialist SEND college in Newton-le-Willows, seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
Supporting students aged 16–25, you'll play a key role in helping young adults achieve their individual goals through a curriculum that combines academic learning with practical life skills, employability and community engagement.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with tutors and specialist staff to provide personalised support that enables students to flourish both inside and outside the classroom.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing 1:1 and small-group support for students with Autism (ASC) and a range of additional learning needs
• Supporting students during classroom-based, vocational and community learning activities
• Encouraging independence, communication, confidence and positive social interaction
• Assisting with life skills, employability and preparation for adulthood programmes
• Adapting support to meet individual EHCP outcomes and personalised learning goals
• Promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing and self-esteem
• Working collaboratively with tutors, therapists and other specialist professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes for every student
This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll support students to develop the practical skills, confidence and independence they need for adult life.
What We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from candidates who:
• Have experience supporting young people or adults with Autism and/or additional learning needs in education, care or similar settings (desirable but not essential)
• Are patient, empathetic and passionate about helping others achieve their potential
• Have an interest in supporting young adults with independent living, employability and life skills
• Can build positive, trusting relationships with students
• Are confident supporting individuals on a one-to-one basis and in small groups
• Have excellent communication skills and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Are adaptable, reliable and committed to making a meaningful difference every day
