Job Title: Teaching Assistant (SEMH Support)

Location: Horwich, Greater Manchester

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a resource provision in Horwich, Greater Manchester. The successful candidate will have the vital role of supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential. This position demands a resilient individual who can provide consistent and tailored support to pupils requiring additional help.

Key Responsibilities:

- Work closely with the lead teacher to plan and execute lessons that cater to the needs of SEMH students.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with specific requirements.
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to students, focusing on social, emotional, and behavioral development.
- Employ de-escalation techniques and behavior management strategies to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Monitor and record student progress, reporting any concerns to the lead teacher, SENCO, or other relevant professionals.
- Support the inclusion of SEMH students in mainstream classes whenever possible, acting as a liaison to ensure their needs are met.
- Develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Assist with the development and adaptation of resources to ensure they are accessible and effective for SEMH students.
- Facilitate recreational and educational activities that promote the social and emotional growth of students.
- Attend and contribute to training sessions, staff meetings, and professional development activities related to SEMH support.

Qualifications:

- Experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH needs, is preferred.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification is desirable.
- Strong understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations.
- Good literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning in the area of SEMH support.
