Description

SEND Teaching Assistant – SEMH & Behaviour Support – Secondary Provision – Barking & Dagenham
From £100 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | September Start / Immediate Trial Available

Axcis are working with a supportive and well-structured secondary provision in Barking & Dagenham who are seeking a confident, resilient and relationship-focused SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role would suit someone who has experience supporting pupils with SEMH, autism, ADHD and behaviour-related needs, particularly those who may require additional support to re-engage with learning.

The provision works with pupils across KS3 and KS4 who benefit from smaller class sizes, consistent routines and a more personalised approach to education. Staff place strong emphasis on trust, structure and positive relationships, helping students build confidence, develop self-regulation and make progress both academically and socially.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is calm under pressure, confident setting boundaries and passionate about supporting young people who may have found mainstream education challenging.

About the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils who may present with challenging behaviour, low confidence, emotional regulation difficulties or barriers to learning. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider SEND team to create a calm, consistent and purposeful learning environment.

You will:
• Support pupils with SEMH, autism, ADHD and behaviour needs across KS3 and KS4
• Work 1:1 and in small groups to promote engagement and confidence
• Use positive behaviour strategies, de-escalation and restorative approaches
• Support pupils during lessons, transitions and unstructured parts of the school day
• Help students develop resilience, independence and positive learning habits
• Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral leads to maintain consistency
• Build strong, professional relationships with pupils who may initially be reluctant to engage

What We’re Looking For
• Previous experience supporting pupils with SEMH, challenging behaviour, autism or ADHD
• Experience in a secondary school, PRU, alternative provision, youth work, mentoring or sports coaching would be highly desirable
• A calm, confident and emotionally resilient approach
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• Ability to build trust while maintaining clear boundaries
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Full-time availability and commitment to a long-term role from September

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to young people who need structure, encouragement and consistency. If you are passionate about behaviour support and want a long-term SEND role in Barking & Dagenham, apply today to be considered for a trial.
