A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Knowsley is looking to appoint a dedicated SEMH & Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant for a September 2026 start. The Role
As an SEMH & Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with students who require additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them to engage positively with learning and school life.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH and behavioural needs
Building positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, resilience and emotional wellbeing
Supporting students to regulate their emotions using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
Encouraging engagement, independence and participation within lessons and around the school
Assisting with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), behaviour support plans and other personalised interventions
Working collaboratively with teachers, the SEND team, pastoral staff and external professionals to achieve the best outcomes for students
Creating a safe, structured and inclusive environment where every young person feels supported to succeed

What We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from candidates who:
Have experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour or additional needs in education, care, youth work or similar settings
Are calm, patient and emotionally resilient, with the ability to remain composed in challenging situations
Can build strong professional relationships and act as a positive role model
Have knowledge of behaviour management strategies, trauma-informed practice or restorative approaches (desirable but not essential)
Are passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential
Are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
