We are currently looking for a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary school in Liverpool, supporting pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

About the School

It provides education for children with a range of complex needs, including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and Autism (ASD).

Some pupils also have complex medical needs, and all pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

The school provides a nurturing and highly personalised learning environment, with a strong focus on developing pupils' communication, independence, confidence, social skills and ability to engage with learning.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and wider support team to provide 1:1, small-group and classroom support.

You may be supporting pupils with significant learning, communication, sensory, physical or social and emotional needs. The role would suit someone who is calm, patient and able to build positive relationships with children.

Key Responsibilities
• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils.
• Supporting pupils to access learning and participate in classroom activities.
• Working alongside the class teacher to deliver engaging and accessible activities.
• Adapting resources and activities to meet individual needs.
• Supporting communication and interaction.
• Encouraging pupils to develop independence and confidence.
• Supporting pupils with sensory and emotional regulation.
• Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining a calm classroom environment.
• Supporting pupils' individual EHCP targets.
• Monitoring progress and providing feedback to the class teacher.
• Supporting personal care and welfare needs where required.
• Working as part of a wider team alongside teachers, support staff, therapists and other professionals.
• Following individual care plans, school procedures and safeguarding policies.
• Ensuring pupils' health, safety and wellbeing are always prioritised.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience working with children.
• Experience within a school or SEND setting is desirable.
• A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
• Excellent communication skills.
• The ability to build strong relationships with pupils.
• A flexible and adaptable approach.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• A genuine passion for supporting children to reach their potential.

Experience supporting children with autism, complex needs, learning difficulties or personal care needs would be highly beneficial.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who is passionate about making a real difference to children with additional needs.

If you are caring, resilient and enthusiastic about working in a specialist SEND setting, we would love to hear from you.
