Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Location: Axminster
Pay: £14.25–£15.00 per hour
Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Contract: Full-time
Axcis Education is currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a primary school in Axminster, supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
This full-time SEND Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone who is passionate about working with children and wants to make a positive difference to their learning, confidence and development.
You will work alongside experienced teachers and support staff to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and access the curriculum in a safe, structured and inclusive primary school environment.
About the Teaching Assistant Role
As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you will provide day-to-day support to pupils with a range of SEND needs. You will help children engage with their learning while also supporting their social, emotional and personal development.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Supporting pupils with SEND throughout the school day
• Providing classroom, 1:1 and small-group support where required
• Helping children access learning activities and the wider curriculum
• Supporting teachers with personalised learning and positive behaviour strategies
• Encouraging communication, confidence and independence
• Helping pupils develop positive social and emotional skills
• Building strong, positive relationships with children
• Maintaining a calm, safe and inclusive classroom environment
• Working closely with teachers, support staff and the wider school team
• Encouraging every pupil to achieve their individual potential

The school is looking for a caring, patient and reliable Teaching Assistant who is committed to supporting children with additional needs.
Previous experience working with SEND, special educational needs, children or young people would be beneficial. This could include professional or personal experience in education, care, support work, youth work or similar settings.
The successful candidate will have:
• Experience supporting children or individuals with SEND, desirable
• A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils
• A calm and consistent approach to supporting behaviour
• A genuine passion for helping children learn and develop
• The resilience and flexibility needed to work in a busy primary school environment
