Description
Want to become a Teaching Assistant but keep being told you need experience first?
If you’re passionate about working with young people but haven’t yet had the chance to work in a school, this could be your opportunity.
We’re recruiting Unqualified Teaching Assistants in Taunton to work on flexible, short-term and day-to-day cover placements in primary, secondary and SEND schools. These paid placements give you real classroom experience and the chance to prove yourself — even if you don’t have formal TA qualifications. They’re also a great way to make sure the role of Teaching Assistant is right for you before committing to a permanent position.
How it works:
As an education agency, we can introduce you to schools through temporary cover roles. This allows you to:
• Gain hands-on classroom experience
• Build confidence in real school settings
• Showcase your personality, reliability and work ethic
• Develop relationships with local schools
Many schools use day-to-day cover as a way of identifying strong candidates for longer-term and permanent roles. It’s a genuine pathway into contracted Teaching Assistant positions.
What you’ll be doing:
• Supporting pupils in lessons and small groups
• Assisting children with additional needs, including SEMH and autism
• Helping with classroom routines and behaviour support
• Providing a calm, positive presence in school
You’ll work 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday (flexible full-time or part-time available).
Pay is £13.70 per hour.
Who this is perfect for:
You might not have school experience yet — and that’s okay. We’re especially keen to hear from people who:
• Have personal experience supporting a child with SEND
• Have worked in care, youth work or coaching
• Have a relevant degree or qualifications (psychology, education, sport, childcare, health & social care)
• Are patient, reliable and genuinely motivated to help young people
Schools value attitude, empathy and consistency just as much as qualifications.
If you’re ready to take that first step into Teaching Assistant work and want a supportive route into local schools, this could be exactly what you’ve been waiting for.
