Axcis Education is working with a welcoming mainstream secondary school in Weymouth to recruit a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil. About the role:
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the pupil, class teachers, SENCO and wider support team to provide consistent and personalised support throughout the school day.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing dedicated 1:1 support to help a pupil access the curriculum and participate in lessons
• Supporting the pupil with their individual learning and development needs
• Adapting learning activities and resources to support engagement and understanding
• Encouraging confidence, independence and positive participation in school
• Supporting positive behaviour and helping the pupil develop appropriate strategies for managing challenges
• Providing personal care support where required, always maintaining dignity, privacy and respect
• Building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
• Working closely with teachers, the SENCO and SEND support staff to implement individual support strategies
• Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to the wider school team
• Following school policies relating to safeguarding, behaviour, health and safety and SEND support
About you:
The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will be:
• Patient, calm, compassionate and supportive
• Confident working on a 1:1 basis with young people
• Comfortable providing personal care support where required
• Able to build positive relationships and provide consistent support
• Adaptable, proactive and able to use initiative
• Committed to supporting inclusion and removing barriers to learning
• A reliable team player with good communication skills
• Experienced in education, SEN/SEND, care, support work or youth work (desirable but not essential)
• Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker, Care Worker or Youth Worker would be beneficial. Full training and guidance will be provided where required.
