Job Title: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher – Primary School


Job Purpose:
To provide high-quality teaching and support tailored to the individual needs of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) in a primary school setting. The SEN teacher ensures that all children, regardless of their challenges, can access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, deliver, and adapt lessons to meet the individual education plans (IEPs) of pupils with a range of SEN (e.g., autism, ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language delays, physical disabilities).
• Work closely with class teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, and external specialists (e.g., speech therapists, educational psychologists).
• Monitor and assess progress, setting achievable targets and updating IEPs or EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) accordingly.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment.
• Use a variety of strategies and resources to support different learning styles and needs.
• Engage with families to share progress, build positive relationships, and support learning at home.
• Manage classroom behaviour sensitively, promoting emotional regulation and positive interactions.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and reports for parents and professionals.

• A commitment to safeguarding and inclusion

Qualifications:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Experience teaching in a primary school setting
• Understanding of the SEND Code of Practice
• Additional training in areas such as autism, Makaton, PECS, or Team Teach
• Experience with writing and reviewing EHCPs
