Support Primary-Aged Pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) – Start September 2025

Are you passionate about helping young children overcome learning barriers in their early years of education? We’re recruiting Teaching Assistants to work with primary school pupils aged 4–11 who have Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) in specialist schools across Manchester.

These pupils often need consistent routines, clear communication strategies, and support in developing basic academic and life skills. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in their growth and daily success.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:
Providing 1:1 or small group support to pupils with severe learning and communication needs
Assisting with structured, simplified activities tailored to individual abilities
Using tools such as Makaton, PECS, or visual aids to support understanding
Encouraging independence in everyday tasks like eating, dressing, and toileting
Working closely with the class teacher to prepare resources and adapt lesson content
Creating a calm, supportive environment where children feel safe, included, and motivated

We’re Looking For Someone Who:
Has experience working with children who have SLD, autism, or related learning profiles
Understands how to use visual timetables, sensory play, and communication aids
Is calm, patient, and positive in supporting behaviour and emotional needs
Can adapt quickly to different routines and learning levels within a primary setting
Is committed to helping young learners achieve small but meaningful milestones

What’s in It for You?
Competitive pay with opportunities for long-term placement
Ongoing support and SEND training provided by experienced professionals
A chance to make a daily difference in children’s lives at a crucial developmental stage
Referral scheme – earn £50 for every successful recommendation
