Job Title: SEMH Primary Teaching Assistant
Location: Andover
Setting: SEMH Primary School
Hours: Full-time Monday to Friday 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: £14.25 – £14.50 per hour
Axcis Education is currently recruiting for a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary SEND provision in Andover. This is a full-time long-term opportunity for a Teaching Assistant, Primary Teaching Assistant to support children with a range of additional needs including autism, communication difficulties and social, emotional needs within a highly supportive and structured learning environment.
This Teaching Assistant role focuses on helping pupils at primary level to build confidence, develop communication and emotional regulation skills and re-engage positively with their learning. As a Teaching Assistant you will play a key role in supporting both learning progress and personal development through consistent routines and tailored support.
What the Teaching Assistant role involves:
• Working as a Teaching Assistant supporting pupils with SEMH needs in a primary school setting
• Acting as a SEMH Teaching Assistant to help pupils manage emotions and stay engaged in learning
• Providing 1:1 and small group support as a Teaching Assistant across core curriculum activities
• Supporting routines transitions and consistency as a SEMH Teaching Assistant within the classroom
• Encouraging positive interaction confidence and communication as a Teaching Assistant
• Working closely with class teachers and pastoral staff as a Teaching Assistant to support individual needs
• Helping maintain a calm consistent and positive learning environment as a SEMH Teaching Assistant
• Observing and reporting progress as a Teaching Assistant to support pupil development
What we are looking for in a Teaching Assistant:
• Experience as a Teaching Assistant or SEMH Teaching Assistant is highly desirable
• Experience working as a Primary Teaching Assistant is an advantage
• A calm patient and consistent approach as a Teaching Assistant
• Confidence supporting pupils with SEMH needs as a SEMH Teaching Assistant
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team as a Teaching Assistant
• A proactive resilient and supportive approach as a Teaching Assistant
