Description

Job Title: Teaching Assistant (SEMH/Challenging Behaviour)

Location: Bolton, Lancashire

Rate of pay: £89 - 100 Per day

We are seeking a dedicated and patient Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team, supporting learners with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour. The role is based in a supportive educational setting in Bolton, Lancashire, where we are committed to providing a nurturing environment that allows all students to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

- Work closely with the lead teacher to create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment for students with SEMH needs.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavioural Plans, making adjustments as directed by the lead teacher or SENCO.
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to students, helping them to stay engaged and focused during lessons.
- Use various strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures.
- Aid in tracking and recording students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to reports as required.
- Encourage and support students’ academic, social, and emotional development, fostering independence and resilience.
- Manage classroom resources and setup to ensure a conducive learning environment.
- Foster positive relationships with students, staff, and parents to support student success.
- Attend and contribute to meetings with staff and parents, discussing the student's progress and strategies for continued support.
- Participate in training and development activities to enhance knowledge and skills, especially in relation to SEMH and behaviour management.
- Perform supervisory duties as needed, including during break times or on school trips, ensuring student safety and adhering to school policies.
- Collaborate with other professionals, such as educational psychologists, social workers, and therapists to meet the holistic needs of the students.

Qualifications and Skills:

- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or equivalent qualification.
- Experience supporting children with SEMH challenges and managing challenging behaviour.
- Knowledge of strategies for de-escalating challenging behaviour and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- An understanding of the educational, social, and emotional needs of students with SEMH needs.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as to take initiative when working independently.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to adapt to new approaches and methodologies.
