Description

We are looking for an experienced Audio Visual Technician to join a prestigious Birmingham venue in a largely standalone position, taking responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of on-site AV services.

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the delivery of meetings, conferences, corporate events and live productions. You will be responsible for setting up, operating and maintaining a wide range of professional AV, audio, video, lighting and conferencing equipment while providing a high standard of technical support to clients and event teams.

You will also work closely with internal departments and third-party AV and production contractors when required.

The position would suit a confident AV Technician with experience working within a conference venue, corporate events environment, hotel, live events venue or similar client-facing setting.

Key Responsibilities
• Set up, operate and dismantle AV equipment for meetings, conferences and live events.
• Provide technical support across meeting rooms and larger event spaces.
• Carry out daily checks of AV-equipped rooms to ensure systems are operational and ready for use.
• Provide first-line technical support for clients, including laptop connectivity, displays, presentation systems, Wi-Fi and video conferencing.
• Set up and operate wired and wireless microphone systems, digital audio consoles and portable production equipment.
• Operate video switching, projection, PTZ camera and presentation systems.
• Support live events with audio, video, lighting and production requirements.
• Assist with filming, streaming and hybrid event requirements.
• Work with internal IT teams and external specialists on networking and connectivity requirements.
• Set up and operate basic event lighting, including DMX-controlled and automated lighting systems.
• Move and distribute AV equipment between event spaces as required.
• Maintain AV equipment, storage areas and technical control rooms to a high standard.
• Assist with equipment inventory and stock management.
• Work alongside and provide technical guidance to external AV and production contractors.
• Support event and stage builds, including staging and associated production equipment.
• Assist with general venue and event setup where required.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant Health & Safety procedures.
• Support risk assessments, safe working practices and contractor compliance.
• Report equipment faults, technical issues and potential safety concerns promptly.
• Provide a professional and customer-focused service throughout all events.
• Assist with opening and closing responsibilities when required.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have:
• Previous professional experience working as an AV Technician, Event Technician, Venue Technician or similar.
• Hands-on experience setting up and dismantling AV equipment for live events.
• Strong knowledge of professional audio, video, projection and presentation equipment.
• Experience operating digital audio mixing consoles and wired/wireless microphone systems.
• Experience with professional projectors, video switchers and PTZ camera systems.
• Good understanding of video conferencing and hybrid meeting technology.
• Knowledge of IT connectivity, networking and LAN environments.
• Experience with lighting systems, including DMX and automated lighting.
• An understanding of live streaming and event recording workflows would be advantageous.
• Good troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve technical problems quickly.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements within an AV, events or production environment.
• Experience completing or working with risk assessments and safe systems of work.
• Confidence working with external production and AV contractors.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• The ability to remain calm and professional when working under pressure.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a wider events team.

Additional Requirements

• This is a hands-on events position, so candidates should be comfortable with the physical aspects of setting up and dismantling equipment.

• The role will also require flexibility around event schedules, which may occasionally include early mornings, evenings and weekends.

• You will be joining an established venue team where collaboration, customer service and high technical standards are central to delivering successful events.
