Axcis Education is recruiting for a Learning Mentor to support primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, trauma-related difficulties and associated learning needs in Plymouth. This is a highly rewarding role offering the opportunity to provide meaningful 1:1 support and help young people overcome barriers to education.
About the Role
As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with individual pupils who require additional support both inside and outside of the classroom. This unique role involves outreach work within the community, helping students engage in educational and therapeutic activities designed to build confidence, resilience and emotional wellbeing.
You will become a trusted adult for the young person, supporting them to regulate emotions, develop positive coping strategies and achieve personal goals.
Key Responsibilities
• Providing dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with SEMH needs and trauma-related challenges
• Supporting students with additional learning needs and SEND
• Building positive, trusting and consistent relationships
• Delivering tailored interventions to improve engagement and wellbeing
• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
• Assisting pupils to access learning and educational activities
• Transporting students to community-based activities and outreach sessions
• Working collaboratively with teachers, families and external professionals
• Acting as a positive role model and mentor
Essential Requirements
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Access to your own vehicle
• Confidence transporting students to activities and educational visits around Plymouth
• Experience supporting children with SEND, SEMH needs or vulnerable adults
• Alternatively, transferable skills from roles such as support work, youth work, care work, coaching, residential care, mental health support or community work
