Our client is seeking a skilled Onsite AV Engineer to support a sophisticated corporate audiovisual environment across London and regional sites. The position suits someone who is confident working hands-on with enterprise AV systems, enjoys diagnosing complex technical issues, and can combine strong engineering capability with a polished, customer-focused approach.
In this role, you will be responsible for keeping audiovisual technology highly available, reliable and well maintained, supporting meetings, events and collaboration tools with minimal disruption to users. Working within an experienced Operations team, you will provide advanced technical support, lead resolution of escalated incidents, carry out preventative maintenance and contribute to continuous service improvement.
Role Purpose and Desirable Attributes
The successful specialist will help optimise existing technology systems through proactive monitoring, fast incident response, effective troubleshooting and a structured approach to reducing downtime. They will also provide consultancy on AV technology roadmaps, system integration and process automation, helping the organisation improve service management and maintain high standards across its AV estate.
Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential, as the role requires close engagement with end users, Level 2 colleagues, vendors and technical stakeholders. A proactive attitude to continuous learning, process improvement and emerging AV technologies will be important in supporting innovation and delivering a consistently high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities
• Take ownership of Level 3 AV incidents from initial diagnosis through to resolution, covering audio, video, lighting and control systems across London and regional facilities.
• Apply root cause analysis to complex, intermittent and multi-system faults, implementing permanent fixes where required.
• Coordinate with manufacturers or third-party repair partners where component-level troubleshooting is needed.
• Carry out proactive health checks on critical AV infrastructure.
• Manage firmware and software updates across relevant AV systems.
• Support planned power-downs, black building exercises and other Business Continuity Management activities.
• Participate in regional site visits where overnight stays and travel may be required.
• Provide expert support for Microsoft Teams and Zoom environments, including room setup, configuration and advanced troubleshooting.
• Guide users on conferencing hardware and platform integration.
• Manage digital signage platforms, including content creation, scheduling and fault resolution.
• Assist with small-scale AV projects from planning through to delivery.
• Manage approved AV software licences, liaise with suppliers, handle renewals and carry out market comparisons.
• Develop proposals to support AV service improvement and technology planning.
• Maintain clear documentation of issues, fixes and procedures, including Standard Operating Procedures.
• Contribute to shared knowledge resources and mentor junior technicians when needed.
• Comply fully with health and safety requirements, including safe manual handling.
Essential Skills and Experience
• At least two years of corporate AV experience.
• Strong technical knowledge across enterprise AV technologies and IT integration.
• Deep understanding of audio, video, lighting and control systems, codecs, signal routing, matrix switching and wider AV infrastructure.
• Strong video conferencing expertise, particularly across Microsoft Teams Town Hall and Zoom.
• Confidence troubleshooting video, audio and content-sharing issues.
• Working understanding of SIP/H.323 protocols and cloud-based conferencing services.
• Expert knowledge of the Microsoft Teams ecosystem, including MTR deployment, configuration, management and troubleshooting across Windows and Android.
• Experience with certified peripherals such as cameras, microphones, speakers and touch panels.
• Proficiency in Teams network optimisation, QoS and media traffic requirements.
• Advanced audio systems knowledge, including digital signal processors such as Biamp Tesira, QSC Q-SYS and Shure IntelliMix.
• Understanding of wired, wireless and beamforming microphone technologies.
• Knowledge of loudspeaker systems, amplification, acoustic principles, audio routing, mixing and gain structure optimisation.
• Experience with audio networking protocols such as Dante, AVB and AES67.
• Strong knowledge of display technologies, including projectors, interactive displays, LED walls and commercial LCD/OLED screens.
• Experience with display calibration and resolution management.
• Knowledge of video distribution technologies including HDMI, DisplayPort, HDBaseT, SDVoE and NDI.
• Advanced control system capability across platforms such as Crestron, Extron and AMX.
• Programming and troubleshooting experience, with the ability to diagnose and modify complex control code.
• Experience with enterprise digital signage platforms such as BrightSign, Scala, Appspace or Tripleplay.
• Knowledge of content management systems.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, QoS, DHCP, DNS and network security principles.
• Windows and macOS knowledge as it relates to AV endpoints.
• Experience using remote management and monitoring tools for AV devices is highly beneficial.
• Proficiency with AV diagnostic tools such as signal generators, audio analysers and network sniffers.
• Ability to resolve complex technical problems under pressure.
• Strong documentation skills and ticketing system experience across incident, problem and change management.
• Ability to write clear Standard Operating Procedures.
