Want to make a real difference to the life of a young person?

Axcis Education is working with a welcoming secondary school in Yeovil that is looking for a caring, patient and resilient Teaching Assistant to join its team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys helping young people build confidence, develop independence and overcome the challenges that can sometimes prevent them from engaging fully with education.

If you have experience supporting young people with SEMH, SEND, additional needs or challenging behaviour, we would love to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide individualised support to students who may need additional help both academically and emotionally.

No two days are likely to be the same. You may spend part of the day supporting a student in lessons, working with a small group, providing 1:1 assistance, or helping a young person manage situations they find difficult.

The role is about more than simply supporting students with their schoolwork. You will help young people develop confidence, independence, emotional regulation, communication skills and positive relationships.

Your Responsibilities

• Supporting students with SEMH and SEND needs
• Providing 1:1, small-group and classroom support
• Helping students engage with lessons and participate positively
• Building strong, trusting relationships with young people
• Encouraging independence and confidence
• Supporting students with emotional regulation and behaviour
• Helping young people navigate barriers that may affect their learning
• Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff
• Recognising and celebrating students' progress and achievements
• Contributing to a positive, safe and inclusive school environment

What We're Looking For

We are keen to hear from candidates who have experience working with children or young people, particularly those with additional needs.

You may have previously worked as a:
• Teaching Assistant
• Learning Support Assistant
• Support Worker
• Youth Worker
• Behaviour Mentor
• Care Worker
• Residential Support Worker

Relevant personal experience may also be considered.

Most importantly, you will be someone who is patient, empathetic, reliable and resilient, with the ability to remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging situations.

You should enjoy building relationships with young people and be genuinely motivated by helping them overcome difficulties and reach their potential.

Why Join?

• Make a meaningful difference to young people's lives
• Gain valuable experience within a secondary school environment
• Develop your skills working with SEMH and SEND
• Work alongside experienced education and pastoral professionals
• Access training and development opportunities
• Enjoy a full-time, long-term opportunity with potential for a permanent position
